Known as “the sunniest corner of Greece”, the Dodecanese Islands are an amazing destination for a Greek summer sailing holiday! The 12 main islands, along with their smaller companions, all boast stunning beaches, great coastal towns and plenty of amazing things to see and do in Greece.
The first 3 destinations we will be exploring are the buzzing Kos, the secluded town of Lakki in the island of Leros and the historic island of Levitha. These islands can make up three consecutive days of island hopping in the Dodecanese and will give you a great taste of life in the Mediterranean.
In Kos Town, you will find stunning clear waters surrounded by a vibrant sailing city. This exciting destination boasts ancient historic relics from ancient shrines to Venetian-style castles that you can explore in order to access incredible views overlooking the white beaches. Glamorous sprawling resorts dominate the built-up southern coast, however visitors looking for tranquility can head to the quieter northern shores. When it’s time to retire from your day of exploring, head for sea-view dining at Mediterraneo Restaurant and then for drinks and music at Papa’s Beach Bar!
From Kos, you can enjoy a few hours of relaxing sailing to the small quaint island of Leros. Mostly untouched by the waves of tourism that have flowed to the Greek Islands in recent years, this spot is an authentic introduction to the Dodecanese beauty and tranquility. Explore the history of Greece’s role in WW2 at the Lakki War Museum. Here you can explore the War Tunnels that sheltered civilians during wartime and gaze upon the incredibly well reserved artefacts of the time. Known as the Greek Island with “a touch of Italy”, you’ll noticed a marked difference in the architecture and design of Lakki Town, and when it comes time to relax for the evening, a hybridisation of Greek and Italian cuisine makes for a unique and delicious Mediterranean dining experience.
