How To Plan Your First Sailing Trip

By April 20, 2019April 8th, 2021Blog

Sailing is an incredible way to see the world! It’s a fun, flexible, and eco-friendly way to make the most of this summer. So grab a group of mates and follow our step by step guide to planning your first sailing trip!

1. Pick a destination

You might already have an idea of where you’d like to head on your trip, but if not that’s absolutely fine! The beauty of sailing is that your transport and accommodation are wrapped into one, meaning the possibilities of where you could go are endless. Some of the most popular destinations for sailing groups to head to last summer were Thailand, Croatia, and the Maldives. If you’re stuck for ideas check out our Ultimate 2019 Sailing Getaway Guide.

2. Get in touch

Once you and your crew have decided on a spot, get in touch with a company that offers bespoke sailing charters for groups – like us at The Big Sail! Just let us know your group size, budget, and destination and we’ll start doing all the hard work for you! It’s ok if you don’t know exactly how many people you’ll be travelling with or which exact cities you want to sail from – if you can give us a rough idea, we can give you advice and offer you options until you find what suits your group best!

3. Choose your boat

Once you’ve enquired, you should receive a quote package pretty quickly! In this blog, you’ll be able to see a sample itinerary of your route crafted by experienced travellers. You’ll also be given a few boats to choose from that will accommodate your crew. Then it’s up to you to decide whether you want to travel with a simple boat, splurge out on an air-conditioned luxury yacht, or settle for somewhere in between. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions, it’s our job to make your summer the best it can be!

4. Get packing

If you haven’t been sailing before, packing for a week or two at sea can be a daunting task! To make sure you don’t get caught short whilst out at sea, check out our guide to packing for a sailing trip.

5. Relax!

That’s it! You’ve now planned and prepared for the perfect summer sailing getaway! All that’s left is to get yourself to your departure harbour and spend the next week or two making amazing memories.
