The view of the huge volcano cropping out from the peaceful ocean has been impressing people for centuries, the Ancient Romans believed it to be the chimney of the Gods. Here you can treat yourself to a mud bath, whilst taking in the unique landscape that has been formed by thousands of years of hardened lava being eroded by forceful winds.
Start exploring the Aeolian Islands from the stunning harbour of Portorosa! Submerge yourself in the tranquil North Sicilian natural landscape, or make a short journey from the Marina to find traditional Cathedrals and restaurants dotted along cobblestone streets. Capri is famous for a variety of things on land including lavish hotels and great Limoncello liqueur, however the most beautiful attraction can actually be found below sea level! The Blue Grotto is an underwater cave that glows a brilliant azure colour when lit up by the sun shining through the clear ocean. Exploring the Blue Grotto is a once in a lifetime experience that will undoubtedly be the centre of dinner conversation that evening in one of the many harbour side restaurants.
The preserved remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum offer a hands on experience of Italy’s distant history. However, they’re not the only thing to see in the area. To the south you will find the grandiose Greek temples of Paestum and Poseidonia and to the north the stunning underwater archaeological park Gaiola that is home to the famous drowned statues. However you choose to spend your day, you will be certain to leave Pompeii wiser!Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter
What happens on a yacht charter?
Our sailing itineraries are designed to help you make the most out of Italy on your yacht, but you’re free to travel off the beaten track or spend more time in a particular area as you see fit. The most popular places to charter a yacht in Italy are along the Amalfi Coast, Sicily or Sardinia.
From Sicily, you’ll sail to the Aeolian Islands, a stunning collection of volcanic islands within a day’s sail of the northern Sicilian coast. You will be able to enjoy sailing to Vulcano, Lipari and Salina amongst others for a fantastic sailing holiday with opportunities for snorkelling, swimming and even viewing active volcanoes. If you want to see more of mainland Italy then the Amalfi Coast is a fantastic destination for your Italian yacht charter holiday. All within fairly short distances of each other are Capri, Salerno, Positano, Amalfi and Pompeii.
Of course, our Italy yacht charter itineraries are only suggestions, and when you travel with The Big Sail you have the freedom to choose your own path. If you want to check out a different town or spend extra time on a particular island, then you can do exactly that.
